So like many at Northwestern I saw Spiderman 3 and it raised some questions. Especially in Spiderman 3 but in other movies also there has been a trend of villains who are not truly evil, simply the victims of circumstance. Take the Spiderman villians, the Green Goblin went crazy because of the liquid stuff he took, Doc Oc was possessed by his robotic arms, sandman needed money, Harry was crazy for a couple of reasons, and Eddie Brock was driven by the symbiot. Why no truly evil characters? Is there something wrong with having a bad guy simply out to rule the world and cause mayhem?

Hey Dose, the two of us have been talking a little bit about this, and it seems that in todays age, we are in a psychological age. We also want to find the reasons why people do things. We aren't content with someone doing evil, just for the sake of evil. Also with Marvel they have always been on for never truely hating a bad guy. Magneto for instance helped the X-men and was Xavier's best friend until he had too much and decided that it was time to take physical action to "help" his brothers.

So I had another thought on this. Would a true evil villian be that interesting? Ok he wants to blow up there earth for the sake of blowing up the earth, now you can focus on the superhero without worrying about the villian, except for the fact he is blowing up the earth. He doesn't become an interesting character, except for Carnage, and that is cause he's crazy and funny.

If something is purly evil there is no love, no complexity. I don't know if an audience would much care for a truely evil character. Plus can something be purely evil. There is always some good in evil and always some evil in good whether it be the thing itself or the events which are caused by its existence.
