I mentioned in one of my recent comments that I love movies that make you root for the "bad" guys. Ocean's Eleven is probably the best example. I love how I can watch a whole movie rooting for these thieves and be happy when they win in the end and then realize exactly what I was hoping would happen. I wanted them to pull off a giant heist. So my questions for you all are these...first of all, can any of you even agree with what I'm saying? and for those of you that can, why do you think we do that? Does this say something about human nature, or is it not that deep? Maybe it simply means those are bound to be entertaining. Or do you think there's something else that drives up to want the bad guys to win sometimes?

I know exactly what you mean. The bad guys we end up rooting for have honor or morals of some kind that makes them have a 'soul' or show mercy. So in this way they are not completely cold to their emotions or to others. Second these "bad guys" are usually making an even "bigger" bad guy pay (if that makes sense) so This way they are doing justice that the law couldn't do, and this kind of justice hits harder than what any law can do. Because these bad guys are on the same playing feild. No law enforcer can copy that kind of justice.

I also think it is because it is something we secertly want to be able to do. To be able to take the something, as money, from people we feel don't deserve it. They are able to throw away all caution and do what they like and best of all not get caught. I think we all wish we could have that kind of adventure and not get caught at the same time. sorry for the book.

This post brings the term "anti-hero" to mind. This anti-hero character is defined by wikipedia (yes, I truly do love wikipedia vast amount of random knowledge) as: "a fictional character who has some characteristics that are antithetical to those of the traditional hero." Yet while these characters dont have all the qualities of the traditional hero, one often finds themself rooting for the character (myself included).

A anti-hero that comes to mind is Riddick from Pitch Black and the Chronicles of Riddick movies. He is a good example and personal favorite of mine. I know that my friends all agree that Riddick is "The B.A." of sci-fi movies. He is a convicted killer that escaped from a unescapable prison, had his eyes "shinned" to see in the dark, kills deadly alien creatures with a small bone knife, says B.A. lines, kills even more people, and becomes the leader of the Necromongers...just to name a few things.

Any way, my point is that while the anti-hero may not the most moral of characters, they are often some of the most...loved...for lack of better word. Why is this? I dont know for sure, but I do know that it sure is fun to cheer for characters that are so cool that is doesnt really matter (or does it?) how bad they are.
