Do you guys think we will get too carried away with technology? Have any of you seen Time Machine directed by Simon Wells? It is based off of the book (can’t remember the author right now) anyway in this the guy named Alex builds a time machine to try and prevent his girlfriend’s demise, but each time he goes back to stop it she still dies. So he decides to go into the future to see if he can find an answer. In one spot we find our technology so advanced that we were living on the moon, holograms are like the artificial intelligences we have been talking about but without a physical body, and any other advances we think of when we try and predict the future. Well he goes even further in the future and finds the moon breaking apart and falling from the sky. He then says “You were right, Philby. We did go too far.” Do you think this statement is correct? Will we take our technology too far and destroy ourselves as a result? Even if it is machines that destroy us it is still technology that we gave “life” too. Will we ever come to a point and say “this is enough, no need to create anymore”?

I think that at this point in time humanity is a bit too concerned with making tiny little gadgets to make our lives easier. Once we get past our personal vanity and move on toward trying to move forward as a race we may go too far. Termintator 3 has a similar story line. The use of an AI program to make networking various large networks much easier for humans. Fairly innocent idea, but our drive to make things easier for ourselves, albeit easier in war, led to the demise of a good chunk of humanity.
Humans arent going to stop advancing until we are forced to stop advancing. There is currently no reason to stop our technological advancements and there wont be any reason to stop for some time. We will most likely keep pushing forward until we destroy our selves, destroy the earth, Jesus comes back, or we discover alien life and all live star trek esque lives exploring new worlds and civilizations, boldly going where no man has gone before...and all that bussiness
I feel the problem doesn't lay with the technology, its deals more with the sinful nature of humanity. In many of the cases were humanity destroys itself with technology it isn't the technology at fault, its some aspect of humanity, whether greed , arrogance, what have you. We possess the technology to destroy the world today, do we destroy every trace of it and go back to the dark ages to prevent the chance? I'm reminded of the story of the servants and the talents, God didn't create us with brains to simply hide them under rocks, I believe he expects us to use them. Through advancing technology we can learn many Godly qualities, self control/responsibility/etc.
